Hyundai hand over keys to Bayer Young Viticulturist of the Year 2017

Bayer Young Viticulturist of the Year 2017, Tim Adams has just picked up his Hyundai Santa Fe Elite from their Head Offices in Auckland. Simon Hofmann, Head of Marketing Hyundai NZ handed over the keys to a delighted Tim. This was his premium prize for winning the national finals and he will keep the Santa Fe for an entire year. The colour is appropriately named “Merlot”. Adams who works at Obsidian on Waiheke Island will enjoy driving around the island in luxury.

“It is a fantastic prize and certainly adds another level of competition between the contestants as they all push themselves further in the hope of winning the Hyundai Santa Fe.” Says Nicky Grandorge, National Co-ordinator “We are extremely grateful for Hyundai’s generosity and support”. Hyundai also support the competition by lending the National Co-ordinator vehicles around the regions including the new 100% electric Ioniq.

The competition is run regionally in Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, Marlborough, Central Otago and Wairarapa during June and July with the winner from each region going through to the very challenging National Final held in August. The Auckland/Northern region became part of the competition for the first time in 2016, so Adams is extremely proud to be the first Young Vit to bring the trophy to this region. “It is a great honour and also recognises the huge support and effort given by my family, work colleagues and the Waiheke wine community who helped me study and prepare for the competition” he says.

The aim of the Bayer Young Viticulturist of the Year competition is to help grow the future leaders of the New Zealand wine industry and everyone who enters benefits from building their confidence and skill base as well as starting to make a name for themselves.

It is a highly regarded title and the contestants have worked extremely hard to achieve this award. They are tested on all aspects of vineyard management including practical and theoretical questions, as well as delivering a speech to wine industry leaders at an evening dinner.

As well as driving off in the brand new Hyundai Santa Fe Elite, Adams won an AGMARDT $5000 travel grant, cash, Bahco golden secateurs, wine glasses and a Leadership week.
