Already a trusted solution for controlling codling moth, leafroller and bronze beetle in Pipfruit, we are thrilled to announce that Vayego 200SC insecticide has recently been granted a label extension to include:
- Apple leaf curling midge (ALCM) in Apples and
- Leaf roller caterpillar and garden weevil in Grapes.
With this new registration, Vayego now offers Apple and Grape growers a new tool not only in the fight against yield robbing and market access limiting pests, but also for resistance management.
High value crops require the best solutions
For both apple and wine grape crops, pest control is vital to deliver good yield and a quality crop. Tetraniliprole, the active ingredient in Vayego 200SC has been fully tested, and has demonstrated proven safety and efficacy both globally and in New Zealand by Bayer. As a product, Vayego 200SC has many great features, in particular fast cessation of feeding by pests, and long length of activity. Because of this, it is an innovative and exciting solution for effective, sustainable, and versatile insect control.
And the features don’t end there. As well as providing fast cessation of feeding and long length of activity, Vayego 200SC is systemic within the leaf, provides robust rainfastness and is tank mix friendly.
New MOA for resistance management in Apples
In Apple crops, ALCM is a major concern for apple growers, as interceptions can affect valuable market access. For many years, Movento® 100SC insecticide has been the mainstay for ALCM control. Recent trials (1) show that Movento efficacy on ALCM is still very robust, however, the registration of Vayego 200SC now introduces an effective and much-needed alternative mode of action.
Adopting a strong resistance management programme by rotating products with different modes of action (MOA) is essential for resistance management. Vayego 200SC delivers a new MOA to Apple crops for ALCM, preserving the efficacy of existing tools and extending the lifespan of pest control programs. This proactive approach is key to sustainable pest management and being able to access key markets.
Optimal results from are gained when it is applied as a preventative spray two to three weeks prior to ALCM peak egg laying. Uptake is both via contact through the cuticle and by ingestion in the midge larva. When this pattern is adopted, Vayego 200SC significantly reduces the number of larvae and rolled leaves, which consequently aids the activity Movento 100SC.

Versatile new chemistry for Grapes
With a label claim to control leaf roller caterpillar and garden weevil, Grape growers can now enjoy the same robust control for lepidoptera and coleoptera species that Apple growers have benefited from for several years. One of Vayego 200SC’s many advantages is that it will control two pests from one application timing, and it’s exciting to have a label claim for Garden weevil as feedback from growers in some areas tells us that weevils have become a persistent and damaging pest.
The fast feeding cessation, systemic activity and length of control from applying Vayego 200SC will deliver effective control and ensure that any potential yield loss from damage by these pests will be minimised. Yet another strength is that Vayego 200SC fits well into nil detectable residue wine production programs when used as directed.
Vayego 200SC is predominantly active against leaf roller larvae, where upon ingestion via feeding, their muscles contract (most importantly the muscles that operate the mouth) and the larvae very rapidly cease to feed. However, it also has activity on eggs, where the egg is laid on a either a non-treated or a treated surface.
Optimal application timing in Apples
For Apple leaf curling midge, Vayego 200SC should be applied two to three weeks prior to the second and third generational peaks. When targeting the second generation, this application can coincide with the Bio fix plus 80 GDD timing for Codling moth control or be applied 7 days later.
Please note: Vayego 200SC is NOT a replacement for Movento 100SC and should be used in a program with alternating applications of both products!
Optimal application timing in Grapes
For control of leaf roller and Garden weevil in Grapes, Vayego should be applied at completion of flowering EL26 and not later than EL27.
