Sales were very strong, exceeding Bayer’s expectations, and the feedback received was very positive.
Now registered for pre-emergence use
Now Bayer is very pleased to announce that SIVANTO prime has received registration for the pre-emergence control of Nysius.
It can now be applied from pre-emergence of the crop for the control of Nysius and then, from emergence through to the 8-leaf stage of the crop, for the control of Nysius, Springtail and Green Peach Aphid.
With the EPA ban on the use of chlorpyrifos for the control of these pests now in effect questions are being asked about suitable replacements. SIVANTO prime proved to be a very effective broad spectrum crop establishment insecticide in spring 2025 and is the ideal insecticide to replace chlorpyrifos.
SIVANTO prime the go-to crop establishment insecticide for fodder beet and forage brassicas
The livestock industry is already a critical component of the NZ economy and with the large number of dairy conversions underway or planned it is going to become even more important.
With an increase in the livestock herd comes the need to grow a larger area of dairy support crops.
Growing fodder beet and forage brassica crops which consistently deliver high yielding, quality forage is a must.
This needs attention from prior to planting, with several pests keen to attack fodder crops during establishment.
SIVANTO prime delivers extremely effective control of Nysius, springtails and green peach aphid making it the go-to crop establishment insecticide.
SIVANTO prime leaves no room for escape
Insect pests are controlled in several ways with SIVANTO prime including direct or indirect contact with the product as well as pests feeding on the treated crop.
Two important benefits of SIVANTO prime are 1) it delivers translaminar control which means it controls insects on both sides of the leaf and 2) recent work has conclusively demonstrated that it will control Nysius walking across treated soil*.
Green peach aphid, an underrated threat
Nysius and springtails feed on the plant causing physical damage resulting in dead or distorted plants and this is well understood. Now awareness is growing that viruses, which are aphid transmitted, are also negatively impacting plant health, fodder quality and yield.
Once a virus infected aphid feeds on a plant, virus transmission occurs rapidly. However, SIVANTO prime acts quickly to control pests and stop them feeding, effectively reducing virus transmission.
SIVANTO prime – a no hassle formulation
SIVANTO prime is very straightforward and convenient to use. Formulated as a soluble concentrate, it disperses rapidly in water to give an almost colourless, low-odour spray solution which has proved to be compatible with a range of herbicides and plant nutrients.
SIVANTO prime can be applied by helicopter.
SIVANTO prime has a good IPM profile
Beneficials prolong pest control and diminish the risk of pest population flare ups. They need to be protected and SIVANTO prime can be confidently integrated into IPM programmes.
SIVANTO prime can aid insecticide resistance management
SIVANTO prime contains the active ingredient Flupyradifurone, the only Group 4D insecticide registered in New Zealand. Insecticide resistance development is a constant threat and using insecticides with different modes of action can reduce this occurring.
