Ordinary people doing Extra-ordinary things - New Zealand Innovators Awards now open

It’s time to share your innovative, product, service or business with the world by entering the New Zealand Innovators Awards. In 2013, when software company GreenButton entered the New Zealand Innovators Awards, they won the ICT category for their cloud computing platforms. Last year, in 2014, GreenButton was acquired by computing giant Microsoft.  Company founder and former CEO Scott Houston says if that’s not enough inspiration to encourage Kiwis to enter the awards, he doesn’t know what is.

The New Zealand Innovators Awards (NZIA) have helped many organisations across many industry sectors get connected to a wide range of partners, multinational organisations and private investors searching for great Kiwi companies.

From now until August 4, 2015, NZIA are looking for the next wave of innovators, innovations and organisations that have invested in developing new products, services and ventures, as well as improving the performance of their people and teams.

NZ Innovation Council CEO Louise Webster says: “It doesn’t matter what industry you are working in, there’s a category for you.  Put yourself on a national stage, profile your business success and get connected to networks to help you grow. “The stage of growth you are at or who you are doesn’t matter –  you may have an innovation project that is still in development, a product or service that you have just launched to market, or a business that you have been growing for many years.  Regardless of your size or stage of growth, we want to hear about your contribution to innovation in this country.”

Last year, the NZIA enjoyed a staggering 60 per cent increase in growth, with entries coming from a broad range of sectors, towns and cities across New Zealand.

NZIA principal sponsor Bayer New Zealand’s managing director Dr Holger Detje says the 2014 entrants were impressive and the event is clearly having a positive impact on the innovation and business community.

“As a foundation sponsor of the awards, we’re thrilled to be a part of the process and are excited to see what will be unearthed this year.  Innovation is part of our company’s core values and the collaboration it brings is key to getting new  ideas to market.  New Zealand is an amazingly innovative country, so I strongly encourage New Zealand business to stand up and enter the awards,” Dr Detje says.

Other foundation sponsors include the New Zealand Innovation Council and Idealog, as well as category sponsors 3M, ATEED, AUT (Auckland University of Technology), Chorus, Datamine, James & Wells, ng Connect, NZTE, Paymark, Yellow, Yealands, RadioLIVE, Real TV, All Good Organics and DB Breweries.

Ms Webster says outstanding innovation can come from anywhere, “We’re on the hunt for innovators and innovations of every description. We’re looking for game-changers across a broad range of businesses and industries.”
