Green Peach Aphid

Mysus persicae
The green peach aphid (GPA) is a pest of many crops, including fodder beet and forage brassicas. GPA feed by puncturing the plant with their stylet (sharp mouthparts) and extracting sugar solution. As well as causing physical damage and excreting honey dew which encourages fungal infections, aphid feeding is the primary cause of aphid transmission. Turnip yellows virus (TYV) is the main virus to infect fodder beet. TYV also infects fodder brassicas, along with cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) and turnip mosaic virus (TuMV). Virus infection causes leaf distortion and even plant death, and can lead to severe yield loss in both crops.
